James Scot Chapman ("Scot") was born on July 20, 1968, in Pontiac, Michigan. He passed away at home surrounded in peace and love on Friday, October 27, 2023. Scot was 55 years old and lived in Plymouth, MI with his cherished wife Cherie.
Scot grew up in Pontiac and Lake Orion and graduated from Lake Orion High School. He loved cars, and worked at Roush for over 30 years, working on many different development projects.
During Scot's time at Roush, if there was vehicle dynamics testing and development work to be done, Scot was at the heart of it. He was involved in all of the vehicle ride/ handling development and testing of the Roush Performance Products Mustangs from 1999 to the current body style. That included the Stage 2, Stage 3 and Trak Pak Mustang as well as the RPP Supercharged F-150 Sport trucks. He also worked on numerous performance vehicles for Roush’s OEM customers.
Scot worked on many engineering development programs performing ride/handling and vehicle benchmark testing for many customers including the Google Firefly, Autonomous delivery vehicles, 3 wheeled vehicles, mail trucks and even a 5-axle crane! If it had wheels, Scot could drive it! Scot was a skilled and talented development engineer, who was well liked and respected and he will be sorely missed by all at Roush.
Scot started and ran the ROEA (Roush Owners and Enthusiast) car club prior to RRC (Roush Road Crew.) As part of the RRC car club he also received the Jack Roush Award for his dedication to the Roush brand. He also enjoyed hosting track day and giving Trak Pak rides at Waterford Hills Race Course and completed One Lap of America three times.
Scot enjoyed hunting, fishing, and attending the Sno*Drift Winter Rally with family and friends in Atlanta, Michigan. He was a grilling and smoking aficionado and prepared great meals for family and friends.
Scot was predeceased by son Nicholas James Chapman. He is survived by his loving wife Cherie, father H. James Chapman, step-mother Karen Chapman, mother Cheryl Ayotte, sister Amy Chapman, son Kyle Chapman, step-daughter Katie Shurmur, father-in-law Richard Alkire, and mother-in-law Patricia Alkire, and many other family members.
